Manta Rays Return to Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt

Emperor Divers in Sharm El Sheikh announces the return of Manta Rays for the spring summer season. Numerous local dives sites very close to the jettys of Sharm reported numerous Manta sightings during April. The Straits of Tiran and Ras Mohammend National Park are usually the most popular dive sites for Manta sightings but this year it seems that the Mantas appear more at local sites closer to Sharm.  Scuba diving with a manta ray is an amazing experience, often ending with a cheer of delight from the dive group upon reaching the surface. They are quite curious animals and they are often known to approach divers.  These magnificent creatures are also frequently seen feeding near or at the surface so those snorkeling also might be lucky enough to catch a glimpse.  When diving with manta rays it is very important to remember that they are wild animals and should be observed only. Petra, the Kingdom’s jewel in the crown, witnessed an almost 50% increase in visitors. However, the biggest attraction was Mount Nebo with an 88% increase, followed by Madaba’s map with 72% increase. Baptism Site officials have said that this is the biggest single increase in visitor numbers since the site was officially opened in 2002.  Tourism officials have said a very good season in 2010 will mean that Jordan’s tourism industry is on track and in the right direction, particularly after avoiding impact of the global economic crisis which started in 2008.  Read More
